diggin' in the dirt

So this weekend was spent mainly working in the yard and doing other small projects around the house. On Saturday morning, we went to the farmer's market and bought a bunch of herbs and a tomato plant. We stopped at home depot and picked up some organic topsoil, and a cage for the tomato plants.

We had fully intended to get everything in the ground that afternoon, but a random downpour foiled our plans.

Today, after we got home from brunch, I got started planting while Jon and the kids worked on pulling these obnoxious tall grasses from the front yard. We only have a little push mower (because we only have about 100 square feet of lawn space) and it doesn't cut the tall, thicker grass. After they got tired of pulling weeds, the kids joined me in the garden for some good old fashioned digging.

So far we've planted basil, oregano, lemon thyme, rosemary, and chives in addition to roma and patio tomatoes. I'm excited to see how they do.

Oh, and suddenly our rosebush is in full bloom too!
